The emphasis onboard is on relaxation and discovery, and not the commercial entertainment that is so often a part of conventional cruises. Hertigruten’s aim is to get you closer to unique environments and to allow you to share the experience with your fellow travellers. Occasionally there may be some musical entertainment onboard in the evenings.
Qilak means 'sky' in Greenlandic, and the name of the lounge sets the standard. Here you find large panoramic windows, ample comfortable seats and even a pair of binoculars so you can view the wildlife and details of the ever changing landscape.
In the onboard shop you can buy modern clothes suitable for Explorer voyages. The Expedition Team will be happy to give you advice on how to dress properly in the polar areas. A wide range of both warm and practical clothing is on offer. There is also souvenirs, handicrafts, and postcards. In addition, a small selection of soap,toothpaste and other personal effects are available.
Passwords can be purchased from reception, costs are currently 40NOK for 30 mins, 60NOK for 1 hour and 200NOK for 6 hours (subject to change).
The books are in a variety of languages including Norwegian, German and English, also there are game tables available to play cards and chess.

The ship's experienced lecturers' command an in-depth knowledge of the areas in which Ms Fram sails. they will conduct, on a regular basis, lectures on topics such as biology, history and geology throughout the course of the trip. The lecturing schedule will be announced everyday in the on board daily program.
Hurtigruten's resident photographer will invite you to photography workshops and practical sessions out on deck to enable you to take the best possible pictures from your voyage.
Visiting 34 ports, Hurtigruten have an exceptional opportunity to get fresh produce from local suppliers everyday. This means delicious new and fresh ingredients, both from coastal and inland areas.
Based on the season's best ingredients, the chefs create either three-course dinners or lavish buffets. Being a coastal voyage, seafood dominates the menu, accompanied with fresh vegetables and delicately flavoured sauces. Each dinner ends with traditional desserts, like home-made cakes, puddings, berries or sorbet. Breakfast and lunch is served buffet style, while dinner is a set dinner.
Your voyage includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is called Imaq- the Greenlandic word for 'ocean', offering scenic views from every table. The open seating for the breakfast and lunch buffet creates a relaxed atmosphere. Dinner varies between buffets, set meals and barbecues. The type of dinner is announced in the daily programme. The Head Waiter will assign tables prior to arrival. Information about table numbers and meal times will be provided in your cabin upon arrival.
Where possible menus are planned around seasonal ingredients, taking advantage of local produce to satisfy healthy appetites stimulated by the fresh sea air. Regular coffee/tea is complimentary throughout the whole voyage. Other beverages and refreshments during the day are not included but can be purchased onboard in the restaurant, cafeteria and bar.
À La Carte
The à la carte menu is a dining experience out of the ordinary - a dinner made from ultra-premium produce from our local suppliers. For those who are taking a classic voyage, full board is included in the price, and you can upgrade to the à la carte option for a small fee.
Even if you don’t have full board, you are still welcome to order tge à la carte menu. On most of Hurtigruten ships, the à la carte menu will be served in separate areas of the restaurants. Enjoy two-, three, four- or five-course dinners, and choose from four different starters, five main courses, four desserts and our famous cheese. Additional wine and drinks packages are also available. You can only book the à la carte menu when you are on board.
On deck 7 you can find the modern fitness room and comfortable sauna with a fantastic view of the landscape passing by. Two outdoor Jacuzzis invite you for a warm bath.

Onboard dress is informal. Although some passengers choose to change for dinner the dress code is casual rather than formal. The weather can vary during the course of each voyage or even during the day. To cater for these variations it is recommend the layered dress approach is taken. For all voyages it is advised you take breathable rain and wind proof clothing. A warm hat, gloves, scarf and thermal underwear, during the winter icy months. On land where it may be icy, sturdy shoes are important for shore excursions and a walking stick/trekking pole may be useful.
Special Dietary Requirements
If you have a special request such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten free please inform Hertigruten when booking and contact the Head Waiter when onboard. They will do their best to meet such requests but can not guarantee to do so.
The ship is suitable for wheelchairs. Persons in need of special assistance must travel with a companion. Please note that the ship's gangway must be used to in order to embark/disembark wheelchairs. In ports where tidal conditions or other circumstances require the use of a portable gangway, or during landings with Polarcirkel Boats, there is no possibility to use/take wheelchairs. Embarkation and disembarkation in Kangerlussuaq/ Greenland is by Polarcirkel boat and therefore any voyages starting and ending in Kangerlussuaq are not suitable for wheelchair users.
Hurtigruten ASA cannot accept children under the age of 5 to travel to Antarctica. There is no age restriction on any other destinations. for safety reasons, children under 12 years of age will be considered on each landing. It is entirely at the Captain's discretion to allow children on shore landings.
Medical Declaration Form
In accordance with Hurtigruten ASA requirement, all travellers to the Antarctica and North East Greenland must complete a confidential medical declaration form, signed by a doctor, stating that they are fit to travel. this form will be sent to you well in advance. The form must be filled out and personally delivered to the doctor upon embarkation. Boarding may be denied if these forms are not presented at the time of embarkation.

Situated on the ipper deck, the Expedition Suites are the most exquisite cabins on board MS Fram. All the suites offer a cabin kit consisting of a bathrobe, slippers, and bathroom amenities as well as comfortable cabin facilities including:

The cosy Inside Polar cabins can be found across all deck on board MS Fram. Most of the cabins feature separate beds, where one doubles as a sofa, and all come with a variety of facilities including:
