Hurtigruten Celebrates MS Roald Amundsen With Antarctica Offers
This time last year, we brought you news that Norwegian expedition cruise line Hurtigruten was planning a number of ground-breaking additions to their fleet. These new vessels are to be the first hybrid-powered explorer ships in the world, with the option to switch to battery power at any point. Not only will this be better for the fragile environments in the Polar Regions, it also means guests will have a much more immersive experience as the ship glides silently through the water.
More information has been released about the first of these new vessels, MS Roald Amundsen, set to be launched in the autumn of 2018. We now know that the ship will be just as technologically advanced away from the engine room, with an activities centre helping you gain a deeper understanding of the destinations you visit. This area will feature state-of-the-art equipment such as science stations and VR technology.
We’ve also learnt that comfort will be provided in abundance. Traditional Scandinavian materials are being used to create welcoming and relaxing public spaces and private staterooms. Warmth will be provided by both the interior design and elaborate fireplaces dotted around the ship. The most luxurious accommodation is saved for the Explorer Suites, half of which will offer walk-out balconies and some will even include a private outdoor Jacuzzi.
As we wrote about a few weeks back, the food on an expedition cruise is by no means basic and MS Roald Amundsen is set to showcase this in style. There will be three fantastic restaurants – T. Aune, Fredheim and Lindstrom – providing on main dining, international cuisine and fine dining respectively. Naturally, there will also be plenty of space on deck for spotting wildlife and a sumptuous infinity pool drifts serenely off the back of the ship.
Check out the video below for an in-depth look at what the pioneering MS Roald Amundsen will be like.
To celebrate the fact that building is underway, Hurtigruten has launched two fantastic offers for her inaugural season. Book before 30th June 2017 and you can take advantage of free flights from London Gatwick on selected Antarctic cruises. Or, if you are travelling alone, there are no single supplements on the same selected departures. Please note that these are not combinable.
